Acupuncture
Acupuncture services at Body Therapeutics are designed to support and restore your body's natural healing abilities. Combining traditional Chinese medical techniques and modern physical sciences, acupuncture has provided healing and hope to people suffering from a wide range of medical difficulties.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a safe, effective and painless method of restoring the body’s natural healing process that originated in China over 2,000 years ago. Acupuncture involves the insertion of sterilized, single-use, disposable needles into specific points on the body, chosen for their particular effect. In Western terms, the insertion of needles stimulates the nervous system, which in turn causes increased circulation, decreased inflammation, pain relief and immune system stimulation. The Eastern explanation for how acupuncture works relates to the Chinese Medical Theory that energy (called qi) flows through the body and can become blocked or out of balance, causing a variety of physical symptoms. Acupuncture can affect the flow of qi and put your body back into balance. Most patients report little to no sensation since the needles are as fine as a human hair. Acupuncture treatments last one hour, and are a time of deep rest and relaxation.
What does acupuncture treat?
Many symptoms can emerge when the energy in your body is out of balance. Head aches, menstrual issues, digestive problems, allergies and of course pain and discomfort can all be treated with acupuncture. Acupuncture is a terrific means of naturally helping your body through fertility issues and decreasing pain during chemotherapy. Because acupuncture is working with your body's nervous system and the nervous system is the body's most powerful communication and healing system there is little that acupuncture cannot benefit. Acupuncture decreases inflammation and accelerates the body's ability to heal itself. It also helps to release energy that may be stuck or enhance low levels of energy. Basically, the body often needs a little help in doing its job and acupuncture is a natural and powerful way to give your body the helping hand it needs.
What can I expect when I come for acupuncture treatments?
Your first acupuncture appointment will be 75 minutes and include a thorough health history evaluation and examination. Our acupuncturist will need a private session to get to know you and your health needs and will provide a comprehensive treatment on your first visit. Not everyone feels an immediate effect from acupuncture and it's often advised that you receive 60 minute follow-up treatments with some regular frequency in your acute stage of care, often with a tapering off of treatments into a maintenance phase as you build a healing condition in your body and get past the acute phase. We offer discounts on packages of private treatments and we make group acupuncture treatments available, which are affordable, semi-private treatments that allow you to maintain acupuncture care at a reasonable cost.
